I’ve been AWOL for a while from the blogosphere, but I’ve been cooking up some fun new things to tell you all about. Recently, I took a big step and became a Pampered Chef consultant!

And so 2010 begins!

First of all, apologies for the lack of December posts. The weeks pre-Christmas are always a little hectic and Joe and I were busy preparing for our vacation in Florida and North Carolina (more on that later this month along with pics!).

But on to “bigger” and better things – the newest season of the Biggest Loser. Honestly, I can’t get enough of this show. I love the premise (people learning about healthy eating and exercise as a way to – shock – lose weight), the trainers (I heart Jillian!), the host (Ali is super sweet and gets so emotionally invested in all the participants…and she’s looking totally fly this year post-baby), and the feel good inspiration/motivation that comes with watching people grow emotionally and mentally while they shrink physically! I even love reading the recaps over on Television Without Pity.

The only problem is, Joe worked at the Sens game last night and we didn’t get home (I picked him up) until after 10:00 p.m. Then we decided to “just watch a little bit” of the season premiere. Before you know it, it’s midnight and we’ve laughed and cried (okay, that was just me) through the whole show. And now we are exhausted! But I think it was just the motivation I needed to put in a good workout tonight!

It’s clichéed but true: you should be careful for what you wish for.

Watching the Biggest Loser with my hubby, I always talk about how much I love Jillian Michaels, one of the trainers. She is ruthless. She gets in the contestants’ faces, screams and pushes them to the absolute edge.

I always say it would be awesome to have her workout with me, even just once. I know I never push myself as far as I’m capable of going on my own. So I picked up one of her workout DVD’s for Joe for Christmas – Jillian Michaels’ 30-Day Shred. Basically, it’s three 20-minute circuit training workouts (three minutes of strength, two minutes of cardio, one minute of abs, repeat) of increasing intensity. I tried out Level One two days ago and I’m still aching! I don’t even want to know what Level Two will bring…gah!

On second thought…perhaps my brain does need a little structure to make sure I’m on-track and being productive. Especially while on vacation. Then again, isn’t that what a vacation is for? A break from the everyday responsibilities of life and work?

But no matter! Christmas is over (*sigh*), the new year has begun and we’re all back to work and “normal” life. I still have photos to post of baked goodies along with recipes, so hopefully those will go up in the coming week. Joe and I made up cookie tins for our relatives this year and we did LOTS of recipe testing beforehand. Yummy!

And it’s also back to one of our favourite shows – the Biggest Loser! I seriously love this show. It’s motivating, uplifting, funny, educational, and something my husband and I look forward to watching every week. We even time our workouts so we’re sweating away while Bob and Jillian are screaming at their trainees. Awesome.

If you ever miss an episode, be sure to check out Television Without Pity, a blogging site that chronicles lots of different TV shows. Their writers are absolutely hilarious – especially the one that does the Biggest Loser recaps. Even when I’ve seen an episode, I always check her posts every week to get a good chuckle.

For those of you who read Joe’s post about getting back into working out, I’m sure you’ve guessed that this means I can’t get away with slacking off anymore, either. Bummer!

So we were over at my folks’ last night and I ran/walked on the treadmill for over half an hour – not bad after two months off. I find it’s super important for me to have good music to keep up my motivation. Right now, my workout mix includes:

  • “Toxic”, “Womanizer”, and “Piece of Me” by Britney Spears
  • “SexyBack” by Justin Timberlake
  • “Just Dance” by Lady GaGa
  • “Stronger” by Kanye West
  • “Disturbia”, “Shut up and Drive” and “SOS” by Rihanna
  • “When I Grow Up” by the Pussycat Dolls
