“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do…Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

-Mark Twain

Who am I?

My name is Sonya. I’m a twenty-nine-year-old living in Kanata, Ontario. By day, I work in the non-profit field.  In my spare time, I’m an aspiring writer, nutritionist, baker, photographer and crafter, among other things.

I grew up in the ‘burbs. I lost my first tooth while riding in a friend’s red wagon along Seabrooke Drive. I missed out on the starring role as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz at Castlefrank Elementary School when the teachers went on strike and the play was canceled (and yes, I’m still bitter). In my senior year, I shared editing duties of the yearbook at Bell High School. I took a year and a half worth of classes in the Journalism program at Carleton University before deciding the cut-throat world of news reporting might not be for me. I could have stuck it out to get the degree, but switching to English allowed me to go on an exchange semester in England and travel across the UK and Europe. Looking back, I can’t say I would have done anything differently.

In April 2008, I married a wonderful man named Joe. Thanks to him, I now have an appreciation for country music, ribs & wings, cats, and sunny Florida. Thanks to me, he now has an appreciation for vegetables, So You Think You Can Dance, literature, and a clean kitchen. We live in a townhouse that we’re slowly renovating. We’re not sure where we’ll be five years from now, but we know we want to be ready to move when we make the call. Who knows if that will be down the street or across the world… Life is nothing if not an adventure!
